Canford Recycling Centre
The Canford
Recycling Centre is a 5 hectare site allocated in the Bournemouth, Dorset
and Poole Waste Local Plan First Deposit, September 2003, as an 'Existing
permitted site with operations capable of expansion for aggregate
recycling'.
The site was identified by the County Council following their search
throughout Dorset for suitable locations for waste management facilities.
The research resulted in 90 potential locations being evaluated with only 13
passing through the sieve to reach allocation in the local plan. Canford
Recycling Centre was one of the 13.
Commercial Recycling Ltd's aggregate recycling facility is located within
Canford Recycling Centre which already encompasses a 6 mwh landfill gas
generating station, an in-vessel composting facility and a skip waste
recycling facility enclosed in a new purpose built building. The Recycling
Centre is screened with landscaping and the nearest sensitive property
(dwelling) is 450m.
Canford Recycling Centre is the main facility serving the South East Dorset
conurbation with a population of 400,000. Located 150 metres from the
landfill site operated by Biffa Waste Services.

The site has been in operation since 1990 and has an extensive customer base
with the majority of material resources arriving from the local Bournemouth
and Poole areas, within a ten mile radius of the site.
