Continuing our ‘Day in the life’ series, this month we had a chat with our Transport Coordinator for AMS Waste, Kirsty. We discussed what a normal day looks like for Kirsty and found out a little bit more about her.
Tell us a little bit about you…
I am the Transport Coordinator for the waste side of AMS, meaning that I organise the routes our drivers do to deliver and collect wheelie bins, refuse sacks, skips and skip bags, and the monsters that are RoRos.
I have been in the waste industry for about 10 years. While I have only been in this role for 18 months, I have actually worked for AMS before. A few years ago, I interviewed for a job on the weighbridge. They must have seen a sales person in me because rather than offering me that job, they offered me a job as a sales executive!
What does a typical day look like for you?
I am office based here at AMS. It is quite quiet in the office that I work in, which allows me to keep focused on the drivers that are out and about.
I spend my days looking at all the deliveries and collections of wheelie bins, refuse sacks, skips and skip bags and RoRos that need to be made the following day, and drawing up routes for each of the drivers. There is a certain element of logistics in the job because I have to make sure that the route a driver is taking makes sense and is efficient. There is no point having them deliver a skip over in Wimborne to then have them collect a full skip from Bournemouth. So, I really have to think about where all the jobs are and the best route a driver can take to get all the jobs done on time.
What’s different about AMS over other waste management companies?
I would say that while AMS is still technically a small company, it has structure and there is so much support around. Also their professionalism sets them apart, both in the office and when they are out and about facing clients.
AMS is a family run business and the way we care about our customers is genuine. The structure within the business and the professionalism when dealing with customers comes from a place of caring and wanting to deliver the best service to our customers.
What three words best describe you?
3 words that best describe me? I would say organised, a people person and bubbly.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I am quite into keeping fit. I go boxing a few times a week, and I enjoy walking. I always go for a lunchtime walk and if there is ever a dog around I will always make a beeline for them and take them for a walk too.
Tell us a fact about you that not many people know
Gosh, something that is interesting about me? Despite what my accent suggests, I am actually Scottish. I was born in Scotland and moved to England when I was 5 years old.
