Fly tipped electrical items in the forest

Fly-tipping refers to the illegal dumping of waste in unauthorised areas, such as public spaces, roadsides, or private lands. This irresponsible act poses environmental and public health risks, demanding prompt and proper removal.

Fly-tipping can lead to soil and water contamination, harm to wildlife, and the spread of diseases. Addressing fly-tipping promptly is crucial to mitigate these environmental impacts.

Recognising fly-tipping involves spotting dumped waste in areas where it shouldn’t be. This can range from household items to hazardous materials. Unusual piles of waste in non-designated areas are often indicative of fly-tipping.

If you witness fly-tipping, report it to your local authorities or council. Providing details such as the location, type of waste, and any identifiable information can aid in addressing the issue promptly.

Engaging in fly-tipping is a serious offence, carrying significant penalties, including fines and imprisonment. Individuals and businesses can be held accountable for proper waste disposal.

If you are a private landowner and become a victim of fly-tipping then it is your responsibility to safely dispose of the waste and pay any costs for doing so. Source: Keep Britain Tidy
