Important things to consider when dealing with waste

Understanding your waste disposal needs is essential and an important step to help ensure you save money where possible and act in a compliant manner. Common questions our expert team can help you to answer include:

  • How much waste do I have to dispose of?
  • Is any of my waste hazardous?
  • Can I put all my types of waste in a single container?
  • Would I save money by segregating my waste?

For free advice, call our waste collection team on 01202 810938

Once you have a better understanding of the waste you need to dispose of, the next decision you will face is what container is most suitable for your needs.

To help you make this decision, we have outlined below the most common waste containers AMS provide in Poole, Bournemouth and throughout Dorset.

What waste containers do AMS offer?

Easy bag

Easy bag

Product name: Easy ‘Skip’ Bag
Definition: 90cm x 90cm x 90cm ‘fold out’ Skip Bag
Accepted waste types: mixed domestic, plasterboard, garden, rubble, inert and clean concrete
Best used for: smaller house, patio or garden waste clearance projects
Pros: container is small and easy to place, no maximum hire period, free delivery of the empty Easy Bag in the BH postcode area
Cons: only available in BH postcodes, fills quickly if waste is bulky

Skip hire

Skip hire

Product name: Skip hire
Definition: 6 and 12 yard skips for hire in the BH postcode area
Accepted waste types: mixed, household, commercial and industrial, construction and demolition, plasterboard, wood, garden / green, inert waste (e.g. soil, rubble, brick waste) and clean concrete
Best used for: medium sized home or garden renovation projects, construction sites and small on-site recycling points e.g. separate skips for commercial and plasterboard wastes
Pros: same and next day deliveries, available in two different sizes
Cons: only available in BH postcodes, requires a suitably large space for locating, if left unsecured can be susceptible to abuse from other people who place their rubbish in the container. Cannot be located on public paths or roads without the suitable permit and safety equipment being present

Roro hire

Roro hire

Product name: RoRo (rollonoff) container hire
Definition:
large metal container that ranges in size from 15-50 yards, which makes this type of container suitable in the disposal of high volumes of waste
Accepted waste types: site, commercial and industrial, construction and demolition, wood, plasterboard, garden / green waste, inert spoil and clean concrete
Best used for: the disposal of large volumes of bulky, light weight commercial waste such as packaging. This service perfectly suited to manufacturing businesses
Pros: next day deliveries, available in four different sizes, charged on a haulage and tonnage rate as opposed to an ‘all in’ fee
Cons: containers are very big and require a suitable space to be sited. Sites or businesses wishing to hire a roro must be able to accept deliveries from 8 wheel trucks

Grab lorry hire

Grab lorry hire

Product name: Grab lorry hire
Definition: 4, 6 or 8 wheel trucks with a mechanical arm that allows waste to be ‘grabbed’ and then transported
Accepted waste types: site, commercial and industrial, construction and demolition, wood, plasterboard, garden / green, inert spoil and clean concrete
Best used for: construction sites or locations of fly tips where waste is piled up loose and there are no on-site facilities available to efficiently load the waste into a container or truck
Pros: same and next day services, 4 vehicle sizes each with a different carrying capacity, ability to efficiently lift and load waste with no reliance on a 3rd party
Cons: slightly more expensive than equivalent sized tipper truck, not able to carry as much waste as the same sized tipper truck

Tipper truck hire

Tipper truck hire

Product name: Tipper truck hire
Definition: 6 or 8 wheel tipper truck
Accepted waste types: site, commercial and industrial, construction and demolition, wood, plasterboard, garden / green, inert spoil and clean concrete
Best used for:  construction sites during grounds work phase
Pros: same and next day services, choice of 2 vehicle sizes each with different carrying capacity, cheaper than the equivalent sized grab truck service
Cons: requires a 3rd party to load the truck, typically offers a slower turnaround time when compared to a grab lorry service

I’ve used these guys a few times now for various types of waste. Always been fast, efficient and priced very keenly. I have given their contact to plenty of builders and home renovators in the course of my job and have yet to hear of a disgruntled customer.
