Hiring a skip as part or all of your waste management solution is a convenient and affordable way to remove your unwanted waste. Whether it’s to finish a garden project that’s been going on a little too long, removing waste from a recent renovation project or your moving offices, it’s important to keep in mind a few pointers for when you are hiring and filling your skip.
Are you a size 6, 8 or 12?
We’re not talking about your clothes size, when hiring a skip, we offer 3 different sized skips, a 6 yard (sometimes refer to as a builders skip), 8 yard and 12 yard. It is important to think carefully about the size of skip you require because you don’t want to be left in a situation where you can’t fit all your waste into the skip you have ordered. Or equally as bad, you hire a larger sized skip when a smaller one would be perfect for the amount of waste you have to dispose of. If you are unsure and would like guidance, please contact our team who will be happy to provide you with advice on skip sizes to help you choose the right skip to hire.
Keep us in the loop
Some customers find they hire a skip with us and within a day it’s already filled and we are picking it up again the next day. We understand that this isn’t the case for everyone, and we won’t charge more, regardless if you need to keep it for 2 days or for up to 2 weeks. All we ask is that you keep us in the loop, so once you know when it will be filled, we can schedule our team to pick it up ASAP.
We also appreciate understanding beforehand what your delivery situation will be like. Key information that can make delivering your skip easier could include; what is the access like, where would you like the skip situated, should someone be contacted shortly before the skip is delivered etc. This sort of information helps us to plan in advance to make the whole process of hiring a skip as seamless as possible.
Segregating is saving!
Did you know you can save some money by hiring the correct skip? If you’re only getting rid of one type of waste, let us know, and your quote will likely be cheaper. The reason for this is that it makes it easier when it comes to processing and if possible recycling the waste. For example, If you know the majority of your waste is going to be rubble or brick waste, then it is cheaper to hire an inert waste skip, plus a Skip Bag for those extra (non-inert) bits than paying for a mixed waste skip.
Understand exactly what you can put in your skip
It can be a costly mistake if additional charges are applied to your skip hire because the skip is found to contain items that are not permitted within the skip type you have hired. To avoid any unwanted expense, please contact our team who will be pleased to provide a full list of common waste types that can and can’t be placed in a skip. For example, mixed waste skips cannot be used to dispose of electrical items, liquid waste or hazardous materials, such as; aerosols, gas bottles, pesticides or TVs. Also, Plasterboard waste is also not permitted in mixed waste skips because by law it must be disposed of separately.
